The most memorable diss track of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry; 2Pac and the Outlawz really let the Notorious B.I.G. and his crew have it.

In this song, 2Pac and the Outlawz threaten to kill Biggie, Puff Daddy, Lil Cease, and Mobb Deep; call Lil' Kim ugly and Biggie fat; and say fuck you to just about everybody and even their mamas. 2Pac makes direct threats of violence and identifies the victims by name, he is not subtle in the least.

Tupac’s main reason for believing Bad Boy and his shooting to be connected was that Biggie and Puff Daddy were in the same New York record studio as Tupac when he was shot. Tupac claimed that “Who Shot Ya?” was confirmation that his assassin was sent by Bad Boy.

Pac took as an insult because it was released soon after he was robbed and shot in New York. Lil Cease, however, claims that Biggie recorded this track months before the Tupac Shakur shooting.

Tupac planned to record hit em up with Outlawz while he was in prison. After he got out, he recorded first version of the song

But before releasing it he told Biggie’s wife that he was coming out with diss record against her husband. It is believed that Faith took this information to Biggie and Biggie recorded song on the same beat and rushed the release before Pac. This got Pac so furious that he recorded a whole new version of Hit Em Up which eventually came out, but the original version was never legally released
